International documentary festival with a focus on music and modern culture Beat Film Festival serves as a unique youth-oriented platform that premieres big documentary titles and showcases smaller international and local talent. The festival program is a vibrant mix of film screenings, music events and public talks with visionaries from the arts field. It takes place all across the city, with screenings in key cinemas, talks educational spaces and music events at night venues.
The festival was founded in 2010 by Kirill Sorokin and Alyona Bocharova as an independent cultural project and has grown into one of the largest film & music events in Eastern Europe. The Beat Film Festival pays strong attention to local community of filmmakers and creative professionals. In 2015 the festival — in partnership with Stereotactic company — launched SMENA, a platform for young Russian filmmakers to support their work on documenting contemporary cultual
